Note the way that "do" or "make" are referred to - not so much a specific act, but a whole life experience, rather a way of being.Churches that focus on "grace" and "mercy" tend to step carefully around sin, and works, rather focusses on YHWH's goodness and mercy and YESHUA's cross and reconcilliation. Not that these are not vital to Christian faith, it is central, BUT, if one focusses on these ignoring the "do" part, it is like a very unbalanced diet of all the good tasty softy food, and the thick, somewhat strong food is ignored.
Ditto to the people that emphasises holiness - it becomes much works-based gospel.
Therefore one would do well to consider all these apparently opposing teachings to find the true meaning of the gospel. This is how YHWH operates, Ps 85:10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
In the Bible, much emphasis in the Old, and much more in the New, is laid on the demeanor or attitude of man forming the context and impetus of works, or doing. So the question should be : why are one doing the things, what inner motivation was at work to produce the "do".
