    • V05 - Background
      • 001 Joh 4:1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
      • 002 Joh 4:2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples, )
      • 003 Joh 4:3 He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.
      • 004 Joh 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
      • 005 Joh 4:5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
      • 006 Joh 4:6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
      • 007 Joh 4:8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
    • V10 - YESHUA initiates the conversation
      • 001 Joh 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
        • Man does not go to YHWH. YHWH comes to man and gives him an invitation. It is for man to respond,
    • V15 - YESHUA extends over cultural and nationality lines to reach out to someone - even the dispised and rejected
      • 001 Joh 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings, with the Samaritans.
    • V20 - YESHUA cleverly swaps the question to raise her interest - offering her something that is apparently impossible for Him to do
      • 001 Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked, of him, and he would have given, thee living water.
      • 002 Joh 4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
      • 003 Joh 4:12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof, himself, and his children, and his cattle?
    • V25 - YESHUA then extends the scope of His invitation by insinuating He is not referring to ordinary physical provisions - we see the same with the manna food symbology
      • 001 Joh 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
    • V30 - The water YESHUA gives promises to be some miraculous substance that originates internally and never stops
      • 001 Joh 4:14 But whosoever, drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never, thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
    • V35 - Attention heightened, she asks eagerly, desperate to rid herself of the shame and rejection inflicted on her every single day
      • 001 Joh 4:15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
    • V40 - Typical of YESHUA, His words pinpointedly penetrates to theat deep seated infection - exposing the rotteness and pain - and shame
      • 001 Joh 4:16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
      • 002 Joh 4:17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
      • 003 Joh 4:18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
    • V45 - Shocked, And shamed, stunned that a stranger could so accurately expose that which she wanted to but could not hide - divert the finger
      • 001 Joh 4:19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
      • 002 Joh 4:20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
    • V50 - Astoundingly, To a woman, a dispised woman of her own community, a foreigner, and SAMARITAN, YESHUA proclaims the central focus of the gospel
      • 001 Joh 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
      • 002 Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
      • 003 Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
    • V55 - The litmis test, rather furnace test of being a Christian - am I worshipping YHWH as He dictates.
      • 001 Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
    • V60 - Strangely, This dispised and rejected woman (from several perspectives) apparently knew more about the prophesies of the Messiah than the Judaic Jewish mobs
      • 001 Joh 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
    • V65 - The first time ever, YESHUA proclaims Himself to be that promised Messiah, Annointed of YHWH. To this Samaritan, dispised, woman,
      • 001 Joh 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
    • V70 - The disciples were shocked and bewildered by this interaction. It would take visions and miracles to break those barriers later on
      • 001 Joh 4:27 And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
    • V75 - The woman went to the MEN - those that were part and partial to her lifelong burden and shame - and proclaimed to them the Annointed Messiah. The very first missionary.
      • 001 Joh 4:28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
      • 002 Joh 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
    • V80 - The change in the woman, the willingness of the townsmen resulted in the promise of YHWH to Abraham to materialise
      • 001 Joh 4:30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
      • 002 Joh 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
      • 003 Joh 4:40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
      • 004 Joh 4:41 And many more believed because of his own word;
      • 005 Joh 4:42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.

      • In Gen 3, 6 and 10 man has so distorted and warped the relation between him and YHWH, an impenitrable wall between him and his God - and his fellow man, resulting in animosity and distance, conflict and pain and blood.

YESHUA came to restore our relationship with YHWH and our fellow man - an outstanding example of that is this interaction.

        How are we restored?

Follow the clues. Allow YESHUA to speak. Have open ears. Know that one has a need, a shame, a boil hidden behind makeup. Problem, this is many times visible for all to see - as it was with this woman. Be honest. Be humble.

Allow YESHUA to remove the makeup to expose that horrible infection - pride, lust, rebellion, deception - whatever resists being exposed and prevents one to be in the presence of the living God.

Allow YESHUA to walk one through the steps of Mat 5, being poor - acknowledging one's needs, mourning - about one's condition, meek - submissive to the Physician to make His cuts and applies His medicine and restoration, to remove and clean the puss of one's own sin, hunger and thirst - intense desire to be right with YHWH, provisons vital to (spiritual) life, mercy - as YESHUA was to us, pure - having allowed YHWH's furnaces to loosen, rising to the surface and removal of deep and strongly attached impurities buried in our soul, being a peacemaker - between YHWH and man, and man and man.

Lastly, to undergo the litmus test of the above - being able to handle persecution, for YESHUA's sake.
